Letter No. 6

February 23, 2025

Dear DP,

This week, our team continued their hard work. Editorially, we have been working on website redesigns for all three of our publications: the DP, 34th Street, and Under the Button. On the business side, we took productive steps to build out our corporate sponsorship package. Oh… and we were also named a finalist for the 2025 ACP Student Media Business Pacemaker Award!

STAFFERS OF THE WEEK

Deputy Copy Editor and Video Editor Uma Mukhopadhyay (cross department GOAT) and News Photo Editor Chenyao Liu are the staffers of the week! Uma has been so awesome leading Tuesday’s copy shifts and putting out such great video content on social media (I’ve featured a few letters ago)! Special kudos for her pulling double duty with photo and copy during men’s basketball this week. Chenyao’s work has been critical in our breaking investigative reporting (and not just on photo, in which she is absolutely killing it too!).

BUSINESS!

BUSINESS!

The DP’s Business Department has been named a finalist for the 2025 ACP Student Media Business Pacemaker Award—the highest honor in college media business operations!

This recognition is a testament to the incredible work put in by the business teams—from launching new revenue initiatives and growing Quaker Creative to revamping our marketing strategy and strengthening editorial-business collaboration.

Big thank you to the student and staff leaders of the 140th Board that made this all possible. Business Manager Zain Qureshi, President Molly Cohen, Analytics Manager Edward Liu, Strategy & Promotions Manager Irene Park, Finance Manager Sangeeta Quddus, and ILab Manager Dhruv Gupta.

Our amazing professional staff, Katherine Ross, Christine Knooren, and Steven Molberger have been the backbone of our business operations and have been big pillars of support.

The final results for the winners will be announced in March. But this shows that we are doing some great work on the business side!

Business Development Team Update

Our business development team has several interesting projects in the works. One of them is a summer camp for high schoolers, in which we aim to put together training sessions from pitching articles to publishing them.

However, this idea needs support from our alumni in journalism. The team is looking for alumni that would be willing to speak about their experiences in the journalism industry. This can be done virtually and will take place at some point during the summer.

If you are able to do so, please fill out this form or email me at president@thedp.com. Happy to answer any questions!
